Faith Housing of Fairfield County

Jill came to the Fairfield County Emergency Shelter (FCES) with nothing. The 58-year-old woman had no home and had lost her job because of physical and mental health problems. The FCES staff came to her aid and linked her to a handful of community services to meet her many needs.

Using an FCES-provided list of apartments for the elderly and the disabled, Jill found a place to live where she wouldn’t have to pay rent due to her lack of income, and she was able to use her tax refund to pay her electric bill.

Now in her new place, Jill is continuing her treatment and is so appreciative of the assistance that she received.

Fairfield County Emergency Shelter

Located at 1681 E Main Street in Lancaster, the Fairfield County Emergency Shelter serves the homeless community in Fairfield County by offering a secure environment for homeless men and women on an emergency walk-in basis. Since 1987, the agency has provided shelter, food and clothing while helping individuals with access to longer term solutions such as housing, employment assistance, counseling and support groups. The shelter serves up to 24 individuals (16 men and 8 women) each night.

Under the operation of Lutheran Social Services, Fairfield County Emergency Shelter also offers the following services for families and individuals to move from homelessness to self sufficiency: case management, budgeting, planning, goal setting and any other requirements that would help individuals/families become self-sufficient.

Fairhaven Place

Fairhaven Place is Fairfield County's only permanent supportive housing complex. It is located at 1681 E. Main Street in Lancaster and offers 17 furnished, single-room occupancy apartments. Each apartment has a kitchen, bathroom and living area.

Upon moving into Fairhaven Place, weekly meetings are planned with case managers who help individuals develop and follow weekly goal plans. Case managers work with these individuals to help them maintain self-sufficiency. Supportive services are offered to help participants with budgeting, employment readiness and housing assistance.
