Food Pantry

Ann and Mike were already struggling to feed their five children on Mike’s income from his landscaping business.  Then Mike got sick.  He had quadruple bypass surgery and afterward, contracted a serious infection.  Six months later, he’s still struggling to regain his health.  In the meantime, they’ve lost nearly everything.  For four months the family lived in a shelter because they lost their home.  They recently moved into their own home and are utilizing one of our LSS food pantries to help make ends meet.  They receive $527 each month in food stamps.  “That doesn’t go very far with five kids,” said Ann.  “By the middle of the month, it’s gone.”  Ann appreciates all of the help she’s received from the LSS staff and volunteers.  Initially she was embarrassed to be using a food pantry but the kindness of the staff made her feel welcome.  “If you need help in other things too, they find it for you,” she said.
