Southeast Ohio Ministries (SEOM) is a program of Lutheran Social Services of Central Ohio. The program serves individuals and families in southeast Ohio, an area disproportionately impacted by natural disasters. SEOM provides spiritual, material and financial support for several southeastern Ohio counties. SEOM also provides disaster response services, coordinates servant events, promotes volunteerism and offers food pantry services. Information on each service is listed below:
Disaster Response The most utilized SEO program is Disaster Response. This program provides relief services in times of natural disaster such as tornado, severs storm, fire and flooding. In addition to assisting with relief efforts during times of crisis, Disaster Response also links people in need with supportive services.
Servant Events-"Learn Service For a Lifetime"
In an effort to strengthen, and in some instances rebuild, Appalachian communities, SEOM coordinates community outreach efforts, or servant events. Servant events promote community development by encouraging neighborhood service. They are also an encouragement to practice Christ’s unconditional love, serve people in ways that enrich their lives, and share their faith in practical ways. Servant events have been recently organized for LSS congregations, and youth in church or school groups.
Community Partnerships To ensure that all people experiencing a natural disaster receive assistance, LSS partners with Lutheran churches and other groups such as Lutheran Disaster Response (LDR). LDR, a cooperative effort of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, coordinates the flow of disaster response services to adequately respond to crisis situations.
